Crestwood Manor Assisted Living

Crestwood Manor Elder-Care & ALF.

What is "Assisted Living"? Is it "right" for me?, or the senior adult in my family?

Crestwood Manor Assisted Living residence combines a "family home environment" with supportive care services for older adults who cannot or prefer not to live alone.  Many active seniors do not need the 24-hour skilled medical care of a traditional nursing home. An Assisted Living Facility [ known as an ALF] is specifically designed to provide a long-term, permanent home to senior adults who still want their independence, but may need help with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, grooming, medication  management and the coordination of complete, nutritious meals.  Crestwood Manor Assisted Living facility removes worries about "home maintenance", safety and security, plus laundry and other daily housekeeping chores.

There is no "correct" answer to the question,  "When should I/we consider an assisted living home?"   You might want to talk about it as an option for any senior adult when one of more of these situations arise.

>>Is maintaining independence important?  Consider Crestwood Assisted Living facility if there is no need for the medical care of a nursing home, but help with routine daily chores, like laundry and housekeeping, or small things like changing light bulbs become burdensome tasks to be avoided or deferred.

>> Would friendly reminders about medications be helpful? Many senior adults have multiple medications to be taken on various schedules.  Assistance can prevent "forgetting" or accidental over-medicating.

>> Is it becoming physically more difficult to "get moving" after awakening in the morning?  Does the senior adult need help getting dressed, doing personal hygiene chores, like brushing teeth, combing hair, shaving and other  toiletry needs?

>> Is the preparation of 3 diverse, healthy and nutritious meals through the day, each day, becoming a burden or "too much trouble"?

>> Is the ability to "run errands", arrive on time for appointments and shopping for daily necessities becoming more of a challenge than an enjoyable "day out"?

>> Are family members concerned about occasional "forgetfulness" or are memory impairments making companionship or partial supervision necessary?

>> Are the limitations of physical ability slowly restricting the senior adult's social environment to smaller and smaller circles?  Complaints or feelings of "being alone" all day can lead to emotional stress. If making friends and interacting with others with similar interests is becoming limited or impossible, the social environment of a structured community may allow for continued emotional health.

Assisted Living Facilities [ ALF], like Crestwood Manor have become necessary and popular because the current generation of senior adults are living healthier, and living longer than any other generation. An ALF residence offers a less restrictive and less expensive living option than either the expense of owning a home, or the traditional nursing home, especially when "medical care" is not really the need.  Older seniors may need a little help with daily chores, medication management, possibly assistance with personal hygiene and the convenience of nutritious meals readily available, but they want to retain the freedom to live their lives, without the worries of home maintenance, security, and loneliness or isolation.

Crestwood Manor Assisted Living facility is ideal for senior residents in the Englewood, Venice, Northport, and Sarasota county area. Our residents enjoy the true home-like environment of assisted living.  We try to offer the fullest freedom of independent living, while providing the appropriate level of care and assistance, as needed.

Common questions [FAQ] about daily life at Crestwood Manor ALF residence.

If I become a resident, how will my life be different from living in my own/current home?

We are a small and intimate professional assisted living facility [ALF] , but our space is designed and decorated as any large extended family home would be. The campus has walking paths, outdoor patios and a gazebo on a 5.7 acre wooded campus, located in a pastoral setting in Englewood Florida. We are located near the travel arteries of I-75. Residents can enjoy numerous activities and scheduled events, or come and go in personal automobiles to outside appointments, if the resident is capable.  You will have the peace of mind knowing that assistance is available 24 hours a day, if any need arises.

Will I have any privacy?  What are the rooms like?  My wife/husband needs some assistance, but we want to stay together. Is that possible?

Crestwood Manor Assisted Living facility IS your new home, similar to the convenience of your own room in an extended family home. Crestwood Manor ALF offers private rooms to residents, and we have two, larger "couple suites", reserved for married senior adults who wish to stay together, when one or both may need assistance without over-burdening the spouse.  We have large common areas and a library for reading, socializing, or just relaxing. Two sitting areas have televisions. A piano and stereo are in the common area too. A beauty parlor/barber shop area has services in-house on a regular schedule.  Commercial laundry facilities are on-site, used by the 24-hour housekeeping staff. We schedule regular activities that residents can participate in, or not, as they choose.  Each resident can choose to decorate their private room with personal furniture and items from the previous/existing home.  Crestwood Manor ALF has two semi-private rooms that are more economical, but include all common privileges, meals and services provided to any other resident.
